Have you ever read a random book left in a waiting room or on a park bench, etc., and did you like it?
I can’t say that I have. As a kid, I would read random books lying around the house, but I had some right to those. There are occasional free books available to me here at school—the chair of the English department often gives away teachers’ editions of textbooks she no longer needs, and then there’s always the free stuff piles at the end of each semester, as women realize that they own too much crap. I got a copy of Hungry Girl that way, but a cookbook is different, you know?
So… no!
I had to ponder a bit to come up with an answer this week. I’m not sure mine necessarily fits, but I went with it.
Basically, I was on vacation and the resort had a take one, leave one book shelf.
Oh, cool! At a family reunion, the house we rented had such a shelf, but I left all the books.
I never saw a random book lying around in public, just magazines in offices.

Thanks for popping by!
Do people leave books on park benches and in doctors’ offices? Is that a thing that happens? I left a book on a park bench once but only because I couldn’t have stopped reading it otherwise, and it scared the hell out of me and I didn’t want to finish it.
I can only imagine that that book is still there, scaring people to this day. It’s gone feral, Jenny!
