As an organization fiend, I always love the end of the year; looking back, tidying up, and getting ready for the fresh new year ahead of us.
2015, for me, was largely about getting back into television—or, more specifically, devoting myself to Sailor Moon and Hannibal, which is not a bad spectrum for my taste, come to think of it. In the last few months, I’ve lost the thread a little, but I just wanted to say something up top because television features a lot more in this year’s list than in last year’s.
My top three selections on this list are absolutely neck and neck, by the way; Number 1 edged out Number 2 by virtue of simply being complete.
As always, these are my favorite films and television shows that I reviewed in 2015, not my favorite films and television shows released in 2015. Although I do have a lot more recent releases on this one than I did in last year’s list! Continue reading
While 2014 has been a political and social cesspool, it has been a year of personal triumph for myself in the continuing effort to become a fully realized human being. That level of quality has been reflected in the books I read this year. I pull all my five star and four and a half star reviews to make my Year in Review shortlist every year, and some years I’ve had to dip down to the four star reviews. Not so this year. And I have very specific reading memories with all of these books, although I think that’s more about me actively trying to live in the present than the books themselves. So, without further ado, here are my favorite ten books of 2014. Catch you in 2015, cats and kittens.
As ever, these are my favorite books that I reviewed in 2014, not my favorite books that were released in 2014. (I am of all times! Although I am mostly of the eighties.) Continue reading
This feels right? This feels right. I really love the Week in Review concept—it’s easier for me to conceptualize time in weekly chunks, which is probably why we invented calendars—so it just makes sense to expand it to my annual look back at the year that was. Of course, now that I’ve expanded into reviewing films (rest assured that I, tone-deaf and cheesy synth-addicted, will never branch out into reviewing music), I need some way to tie together my two year-end lists. (Two! I feel all fancy.) It’s been a very good year for me, both generally and pop culturally, so my first top ten film list was much easier than anticipated.
As ever, these are my favorite films that I reviewed in 2014, not my favorite films that were released in 2014. (I am of all times! Although I am mostly of the eighties.) Also, I’ve thrown television in the mix as well. It’s my party, I’ll cry if I want, cry if I want to, et cetera, et cetera. Continue reading
