What, if any, kind of music do you listen to when you’re reading? (Given a choice, of course!)
None. I can’t listen to music while I read, because I really get into my music. I see stories in even the vaguest of songs, be it of my own devising (rarely) or linking it to stories I already know and love. It distracts me from reading, because music, I feel, invites me to imagine, as do books, and I can’t focus with the two competing stimuli. This is probably why I hate background music in audiobooks so much, come to think of it… I’ve yet to see what I’d do with diegetic music in an audiobook.
As for my taste in music, it’s all over the place—I rarely have to pick up an entire album, but rather pick at songs. The last three songs I bought on iTunes are “Siúil a Rúin”, “Set Fire to the Rain”, and “Animal”, which only excludes my love for really out-there electronica and musicals.
