Booking Through Thursday: Which End?

In general, do you prefer the beginnings of stories? Or the ends?

My immediate knee-jerk reaction was to say that I prefer the endings, since, with my love for plot, I love it when a plot line plays off spectacularly, but, upon reflection, I think I might prefer beginnings.

There’s just something wonderful about knowing a little more than the characters do, that there are events they have no idea about that are just around the corner. And it still, obviously, plays to my love for plot–each plot line is just starting out, and, most of the time, I don’t know what’s going to happen. All that tension plus the joy of opening a new book… yeah, I definitely prefer beginnings.

  1. Ooh, good BBT question today. I have to agree with you, the beginnings are always the best. There’s something so wonderful about opening a book, diving in, getting attached to characters, and falling in love with a new world.
