Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
The plash of water, the sight of her shoes and stockings awry on the path where she had flung them; or Here Boy lapping in the puddle near her feet, and suddenly there was Sweet Home rolling, rolling, rolling out before her eyes, and although there was not a leaf on that farm that did not make her want to scream, it rolled itself out before her in shameless beauty. It never looked as terrible as it was and it made her wonder if hell was a pretty place too.
pg. 6 of Beloved by Toni Morrison
PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Teaser Tuesdays post, or share your 2 ‘teasers’ in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks!
I never managed to finish this one. I’m interested to see what you think of it.
I’m really enjoying it- the pace is much different than what I’ve been reading lately.
I haven’t read anything by Toni Morrison. This was an Oprah book, wasn’t it? Great teaser!
My Teaser: We the Children
Most likely- she produced the film version.
Hmmm, not sure this one would be for me but I hope you are enjoying it. Here’s my teaser . Have a great week and happy reading.
Thank you!
I’m guessing bad things happened at home. Great teaser!
Sweet Home was the plantation she was a slave on. I’m glad you liked it!
Wow, powerful and beautiful teaser. Great job. Mine is at The Crowded Leaf.
Aw, thanks, Alayne! 🙂
I love the way Toni Morrison writes–it’s so lyrical. Never read this one, though I enjoyed The Bluest Eye and Sula.
My teaser this week is over at bookwanderer.
I’ve never read her before, but I keep running into her books at thrift stores- I can’t resist anymore!
Wow! I keep meaning to read this one. I love those sentences that linger and convey so much!

Exactly! I knew this was going to be my teaser as soon as I read it.
Bit long winded isn’t she. I am exhausted just reading the teaser. LOL. Enjoy your book! Here’s Mine
Not long-winded, just lyrical! Thanks for stopping by!
Oh, I’ve heard about this one of course but haven’t tried it because it sounded a bit grim. I like that teaser though.
Thanks for stopping by The Misadventures of Moppet! My link is here:

It is grim, but it’s set after the grimness has passed,
Toni Morrison writes so beautifully! I really liked her novel “Love”, will have to try this one as well.

Kaye-the road goes ever ever on
Thanks for dropping by!
Heard of this one but never read it.
Same here, until now. Thanks for dropping by!
An interesting observation – makes a very good teaser!
My teaser is here.
Aw, thanks, and thanks for stopping by!
I’ve never read this one – hope you are enjoying it!
Here’s my teaser at arch thinking.
I really am, thanks!
I read this in high school and didn’t get it. Then I read it again in college and was like, this is brilliant! I’ve also read Morrison’s The Bluest Eye and Tar Baby, but Beloved is in its own league compared to those two.
